Ash-Shifaa is a registered charitable trust in Sri Lanka giving special education, rehabilitation and vocational training to children with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.
Ash-Shifaa was founded on 14 September 2003 by Mrs. Nilufa Nizar, with five children and a volunteer staff.
We believe every child is special and deserves a nurturing, empowering place to grow. Our vision is to raise the quality of life of differently abled children, regardless of race, caste or religion, and help them become independent, dignified members of society.
More than 500 children have registered with us over 22 years. Because we work from a rented building, we can serve around 35 at a time. The limit is space, never willingness.
Our mission
To create a nurturing, inclusive environment where children with special needs can thrive, with comprehensive care, education and support that helps each child reach their fullest potential.
How we work
Individual attention, therapeutic programmes and a strong sense of community, so every child grows in independence, confidence and belonging.
Aims & objectives
To prepare children with special needs, step by step, to be self-reliant, disciplined and valuable contributors to society.
Three ways we help a child grow
Each programme is shaped around the child in front of us: their condition, their pace and the life they are working towards.
Special Education
Tailored instruction for children with conditions including autism, visual and hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, ADHD and more. We use preventive, remedial and compensatory interventions to help each child overcome their own barriers to learning.
